GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Hayes-Taylor YMCA Board of Management, staff and supporters of the recreation, fitness and community programs the “Y” has to offer gathered at The Sheraton Four Seasons on Sunday, Nov. 12 for the Y’s 57th Annual Awards and Recognition Banquet. According to Y leadership, this event “annually celebrates the rich history and profound impact of the Hayes-Taylor YMCA within the East Greensboro Community.
This year, the Hayes-Taylor Y, led by its Executive Director Spencer McCall, honored the Y’s tireless volunteers, staff and benefactors who help drive the success of the “Y”. The 2023 Hall of Fame honorees are Ben Brown, Colonel Larry Burnett, Nancy Douglas, Dr. Edward Fort, The Honorable Paul Jones, Lola McAdoo, Philbert Neal, Thomas Scott, James “Smitty” Smith, James Upchurch, Doris Vincent, Andrea Wright.
Special awards for “Y” Leaders in Service to Youth and Community are as follows: 1. J.F. Johnson Youth Award – Charlee Maddox. 2. Jimmie I. Barber Award – Sharon Hightower. 3. R. L. McGibbony Award – Margaret Ryan. 4. Chairman’s Cup – T. O. Stokes and Peggy Jones-Dargan. 5. Sportsman of the Year – Cynthia Ricks. 6. Edgar I Farmer Board Member Award – Dr. Edward Fort. 7. Citizenship and Service to Youth Award – Northside Presbyterian Church. 8. Angeline Smith High Female Campaign Producer – Nancy Douglas. 9. S.C. Smith High Male Campaign Producer – Col. Larry Burnett.
